HH THE Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani received verbal messages from a number of leaders yesterday. The messages, dealing with bilateral relations and ways to enhance them, were conveyed by officials whom the Emir received at the Ritz-Carlton hotel. A message from Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was conveyed by his personal envoy Abdullah al-Senoussy.
The meeting was attended by HE the Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani, Emiri Diwan Chief HE Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Saud al-Thani, Director of the Foreign Ministry’s Arab Affairs Department Ibrahim Abdulaziz al-Sahlawi, and Libyan ambassador El-Mabrouk Mohamed al-Maadani.
A message from King Abdullah II of Jordan was conveyed by the speaker of the Jordanian House of Deputies and head of the Arab Parliamentary Union, Abdul Hadi al-Majali.
The meeting was attended by Advisory Council Speaker HE Mohamed bin Mubarak al-Kholeifi, Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Saud al-Thani and al-Sahlawi.
Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdullah al-Qirbi conveyed a message from President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Sudanese National Council chairman Ahmed Ibrahim al-Taher conveyed a message from President Omar Hassan al-Bashir.
A message from Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin was conveyed by Minister of Education and Youth Victor Tvircun.
The Emir also received a letter from French President Jacques Chirac.
The letter was delivered by the president of the Paris-based Arab World Institution.
Also yesterday, the Emir received a number of dignitaries taking part in the seventh Doha Forum on Democracy, Development and Free Trade.
The Emir met former Romanian president Emil Constantinescu, member of the Bosnia-Herzegovina presidency Haris Silajdzic, former South African president Fredrick De Klerk, former president of Cyprus George Vassilio, and leader of the British House of Commons Jack Straw. Important topics tabled for discussion at the Doha Forum were reviewed during the meetings. – QNA
