Centre for Dialogue of Religions
The
third conference on Dialogue of Religions concluded
deliberations in Doha on Thursday, June 30, 2005, by
adopting the proposal of H.H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa
al-Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar of establishing an
international centre or an institution for dialogue of
religions, the conferees expressed their appreciation to
Emir's proposal, and they said that they are looking forward
to see the establishment of the centre takes place on the
ground to promote its noble message of deepening knowledge,
enhancement of culture of dialogue, and reviewing the
negative historical heritage which hurdles the understanding
among the followers of the three religions.
The
participants in the conference thanked Qatar' Emir and
people for organizing the conference and for being keen to
make it successful. After thorough discussions and
deliberations, the participants reached results and
recommendations that would have their impact on the mutual
understanding and dialogue among religions, the
recommendations included, establishing academic departments
in Arabic and Islamic universities for comparative studies
of religions, and setting up a council for religious
tolerance in Islamic world with participation of
representatives from all religions, the recommendations also
included condemnation of any political use of the religion
and rejection of linking terrorism with any religion.
The
dialogue of religions conference has been dominated with an
atmosphere of calmness, transparency, freedom, and
understanding, dean of the sharia and law faculty at Qatar
University Dr. Aysha Al-Mannai, who is also chairperson of
the conference organizing committee asserted.
In a
statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Dr. Al-Mannai said
that the representatives of all three religions have
demonstrated preparedness to maintain inter-faith dialogue
with a view to working out common grounds among their
followers.
Such an
attitude has been consistent with the theme of the
conference, which was basically dealing with the role of
religions in the building up of human civilizations, she
said.
Such a
theme requires participants to focus on values shared in
common for the wellbeing of the entire humanity, she added.
The
conferees deemed it proper to avoid all controversial
issues, especially those relating to faith and religious
practices, and to focus on the generally agreeable points,
which all divine religions may share in common such as basic
human values, morals and noble principles, she said.
