International Islamic News Agency/ Doha to host Inter-faith conference tomorrow

Doha – Rabi Al Akher 19, 1428/ May 06, 2007 – At least 150 prominent scholars and leaders from three leading religions in the world-Islam, Christianity and Judaism will take part in the Fifth Annual Inter-faith Dialogue Conference, which will kick off here tomorrow. The three-day event is being hosted by the Shariah Faculty at the Qatar University. The topics for discussion include fundamentalism versus religious dialogue, pluralism, Muslim women in the West and the concept of God in the three religions, said Dr. Aysha Al Mannai, dean of the Shariah Faculty.
The conference will give some focus on Islam-Judaism dialogue, side by side with Islam-Christian dialogue, which had been on the agenda in the previous conferences as well. Dr. Aysha Al Mannai said the conference will provide equal opportunity for all the participants to express their views, which will be in true spirit of dialogue. The conference is expected to come out with an announcement establishing a permanent centre for dialogue of religions in Doha. A decision in this regard was taken in the last conference held here in April last year. The conference is also expected to come out with a declaration containing proposals for strengthening dialogue and understanding between religions.
