DOHA, May 7 (KUNA) -- Peaceful coexistence among religions is an essential issue that should be preserved within a sensible manner, Qatari Shoura Council President Mohammad Al-Khalefi said here Monday.hb
In an inaugural speech of the Fifth Doha Conference of Inter-Faith Dialogue, which kicked off this evening, Al-Khalefi called for the utilization of civil rights, which would determine the citizen's rights and duties in modern civil societies regardless to religious distinctions.
He noted that the aim of the conference was to find common grounds of tolerance and understanding among Islam, Christianity and Judaism, whereas more efforts and hard work should be exerted to create such matter.
Al-Khalefi drew attention to interlink among the three faiths regarding their fundamental beliefs, noting that all of them were consent to the objective of human happiness.
More than 150 scholars from the Muslim, Christian and Jewish faiths are partaking in the three-day event, themed "The Spiritual Dimension of Faith and Co-existence of Human Societies".
The conference's agenda is also expected to address a number of vital issues such as anti-dialogue radicalism, Islam's image in the West, and the difference of opinions regarding Devine oneness.(end) ma.
