Fifth Doha Conference on Inter-Faith Dialogue kicks off

QatarInfo 7/5/2007

The Fifth Doha Conference on Inter-Faith Dialogue will be held here in Doha between 7 and 9 May 2007 under the title 'spiritual values and world peace', with the participation of more than 150 personalities from Arab states and other countries across the world.

Through four sessions, the conference will tackle the implications of inter-religious dialogue, the shared spiritual dimension and its influence on peace-co-existence and mysticism as manifested in various divine religions, besides some practical suggestions to promote spiritual communion among various religions.

Followers of Islam, Christianity and Judaism taking part in the gathering will also tackle some aspects of dialogue-shunning fundamentalism, the image of Islam in the West, the intricacy between monotheism and human pluralism, Muslim women and the West, and the implications of dialogue among religions.

Over three days of proceedings, the participants will also shed  some light on the behavioural manifestation of  spiritual faith and spiritual oneness, the prospects of inter-human association and the spirituality of religious rituals as a basis for understanding as well as the role of inter-religious and spiritual co-existence in providing the basis for inter-cultural and inter-civilization co-existence.

The last session of the dialogue would table some practical proposals for spiritual empathy among religions, besides ways of activating Islamic-Jewish dialogue and the values of peace.

The dean of the Sharia and Islamic Studies Faculty Dr. Aysha Yousuf Al-Mannai, who is also Chairperson of the organizing committee of the conference, said a Doha-based Inter-Religions Dialogue Centre would be launched at the conclusion of this annual meeting.

Participants of the conference would also adopt a host of proposals and recommendations to encourage inter-religious and inter-humanitarian dialogue and peaceful-coexistence.
