PressTV / Interfaith summit in Qatar

Sun, 06 May 2007 14:39:55
Senior scholars from the world's major religions are to gather in Qatar for annual talks aimed at enhancing interfaith relations.

The Fifth Doha Conference for Inter-Faith Dialogue will bring to the Persian Gulf Arab state some 150 representatives of the major monotheistic religions - Islam, Judaism and Christianity, AFP reported.

The creation of a permanent center for interfaith dialogue based in Qatar is also expected to be announced at the two-day meeting, which begins Monday.

Thirteen rabbis were among the delegates during last year's conference, when attendees debated various issues, including the controversial publication in European newspapers of derogatory cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), a move which angered Muslims worldwide.
