Preparations are underway for holding seventh Doha Interfaith Conference on October 20, the chairman of the Doha International Centre for Interfaith Dialogue (DICID) said yesterday.
Dr Ibrahim Saleh al-Naimi said that the gathering would focus on promoting solidarity against global concerns including solidarity against war and natural disasters, economic solidarity in the face of the financial crisis with religious perspective, and solidarity for defending religious freedoms.
The organising committee of the annual conference held discussions with representatives from the permanent committee for conferences at the Foreign Ministry to discuss preparations for the conference, Dr al-Naimi added.
The two-day conference would feature renowned clerics delivering lectures in plenary sessions which would be followed by further discussions among the participating researchers and delegates.
Also, some 250 delegates from different countries, representing the three monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam, are expected to participate in the discussions.
The conference comes as part of the DICID’s role towards the community and region, he added.
“Our mission is to spread the culture of dialogue and enhance the peaceful coexistence among the followers of different faith,” he said.
