Emir to inaugurate 10th Doha Forum today

DOHA THE Emir His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani will open the 10th Doha Forum 2010 on Monday.

Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al Thani will give the welcome speech.

The 10th Doha Forum will discuss key issues such as democracy, national identity, immigration, religion and the foreign policies.

Education, media freedom, technology, the role of youth and women in the development will also be discussed during the conference.

Along with Doha Forum 2010, a Conference of Enriching the Middle Eastís Economic Future is also being held to discuss economic global security and stability which have arisen following the financial crisis.

Energy security, oil exports, human development challenges, the climate change, economic competitiveness and trade are to figure during the Conference of Enriching the Middle Eastís Economic Future.

The Conference is being organized in collaboration with the US University of Los Angeles and the Middle East Studies Center to deliberate on the issues relating to the Middle East and the region.

Several heads of states and governments, ministers, businessmen, academics and other dignitaries from across the globe will be attending the three-day meet.

Over 500 high-profile personalities are slated to grace the occasion.

The participants include the Macedonian President Gorge Ivanov and Finland President Tarja Kaarina Halonen.

Other countries to be represented by high-ranking officials include Spain, Hungary, United Kingdom, US, Greece, Poland, South Africa, Cyprus, Korea, Bahrain, Afghanistan, Lebanon and the UAE.

The last day of the forum will feature discussions on Education and Scientific Research with Qatar Foundation Vice-President Dr Abdullah Ali al Thani as moderator.

The topics will cover foreign educational institutions and challenges, development and research.

The session on International and Humanitarian Stability and Security will be moderated by Rt .Hon Dr Kim Howells of UK.

Discussions on Media Restrictions and Challenges will be led by France's Supreme Council of Audiovisual President Michel Boy while Chile's former minister for Foreign Affairs Alejandro Foxley will be the session presenter on Enhancing Democratic Transition.

The 9th Doha Forum and the Conference of Enriching the Middle East's Economic Future was held in May 2009.
