Qatar Tribune/ PM to open Qatar Law Forum today

DOHA The Prime Minister and

Minister of Foreign Affairs HE

Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin

Jabor al Thani will open the

Qatar Law Forum (QLF) at the

Ritz Carlton Hotel here on

Saturday. The three-day forum,

under the banner of “A Global

Commitment to the Rule of

Law”, is being organised by the

Permanent Committee for

Organising Conferences at the

foreign ministry.

Delegates from more than 54

countries are expected to take

part in the meeting, including

300 leading legal experts, chief

justices, bankers, regulators

academics and lawyers in addition

to 400 participants from

the public prosecution department,

the Emiri Diwan and legal

experts of the companies operating

in Qatar.

Speaking at a press conference

on Friday, Assistant

Foreign Minister for Follow-up

Affairs HE Mohammad

Abdullah al Rumaihi said the

forum aimed to discuss legal

and financial issues, the rule of

law in the context of globalisation

as well as the regulation of

financial markets, trade and

finance cooperation and international

disputes resolutions.

“The forum will also address

the administration of justice,

and legal education in a neverchanging

world and focus on

the role of law in meeting the

current financial challenges,” he

added. Al Rumaihi was joined

by QLF Director Malik Dahlan

and Harvard Law school Vice-

Dean William Alford. It is worth

noting that the first commercial

and civil court in Qatar will be

announced during the QLF.

‘’Quraysh Institution for Law

and Policy and Harvard Law

School have brought to

Doha the most prestigious law firms to discuss global governance, Dahlan said, adding the Qatar Financial Centre and its independent Regulatory Authority would showcase the commitment to the rule of law at the forum.

Harvard Professor William Alford said, ‘’We have never witnessed such a large gathering of legal experts at one event.

QLF will provide a great opportunity to the legal experts and the audience to get acquainted with the challenges of globalisations for the legal institutions around the world.

The need for legal reforms, the diversity of legal profession and the means to develop this profession in order to serve the society’’.
